Manifesto

through its web site exists as a forum of encounter and dialogue and it moves further into unexplored territory: an idea that by combining art with philanthropy, we can improve the quality of life and conditions of less-fortunate children. The underlying spirit of this initiative is the fundamental concept that art in all its manifestations - whether music, painting or literature, has always been permeated, from its birth and throughout its evolution, by the precise will to communicate things of great importance, tying it to a vision of the world as a vessel of life:

Art speaks to the human race about the human race.

Modest in the realization that art is limited in its ability change the world, COLORS OF LIFE desires to embrace, interpret and disseminate the undeniable and tangible alterations of perception that many artists have been able to express through their technique and inner sensibility.

From Picasso’s Guernica - a bitter critique of the horrors of war - to the rupture works against violence by Miró; from the engaged and defiant compositions by Beethoven to the anti-militarist and pacifist texts by the late Bertrand Russell - these and many more bring synthesis to the thought that COLORS OF LIFE seeks to express: Albert Einstein’s understanding that “a single race exists, the human race”. We firmly believe that such a race must have a radiant future, to be lived with dignity and flair. Our credo is to work tirelessly, to paint unabashedly and with shining colors the lives and hardships of disadvantaged peoples, taking as inspiration and point of departure our shared future, the children, our most poignant expression of what will be our tomorrow.

Seized with conviction to assist the smallest, most vulnerable members of the human race, COLORS OF LIFE aspires to make a difference in the futures of children whose lives are painted in a limited palette of gloomy and fading colors - to make life, where possible, more colorful and enjoyable. Through plans ranging from visual art to music, literature and other forms of art and expression, and by supplying these fundamental tools, COLORS OF LIFE wants to allow the “artists” of the future to have a chance. Every door opened, each new possibility, new discovery, new enthusiasm in their lives may lead towards feelings and understanding that can alter and improve their existence and it is our mission to facilitate those positive changes.

COLORS OF LIFE, through member and sponsor donations, the active support of artists, scientists and concerned members of the community, will support both existing institutions as well as the development of a variety of philanthropic projects related specifically to the world of art and culture. United under a common goal, we will nurture and build avenues of hope for children to be able to grow and develop into strong, confident individuals, creating the possibility of a brilliantly colored future for the world.

COLORS OF LIFE, supporting and supported by similarly inclined non-governmental organizations, is inhabited by a citizenship where race, religious credo and political diversions do not exist. With a shared and focused goal of creating in life what art represents in abstract, COLORS OF LIFE cherishes the idea that our efforts to alter today’s unfortunate realities will allow us to look bravely toward tomorrow’s promises.

Despite its brief existence, COLORS OF LIFE has already enhanced artistic opportunities for Oberlin College students through the donation of artwork to support the establishment of an art studio. It has also created and promoted the first Colors of Life International Photo Contest and has channeled, using that vehicle, significant support to the Transitional Care Unit of Richmond Children’s Hospital.
